Maspeth Federal Savings (MFS) has been selected as one of the Best Banks to Work for by American Banker in its annual ranking of banking institutions across the U.S. The ranking acknowledges banks that provide excellent benefits, a welcoming work environment and unusual perks.

MFS is known in the region for its community efforts and lengthy employee tenures, many of which span multiple decades. To foster long-term career growth, the bank provides continuing education, tuition and wellness reimbursements and an annual Employee Awards Night where people from across its six branches come together to celebrate achievements and milestones.

It’s like a lifetime job,” says Gaby Zuniga, a bank teller of over 15 years. “You feel like you’re in good hands.”

In addition to providing exceptional work-life balance, MFS offers regular opportunities for employees to participate in various community initiatives, which include annual donation drives, volunteer days at the Queens Botanical Garden and the Ronald McDonald House as well as cultural events like the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Race. It also hosts a range of employee activities, such as sporting event outings and an annual Breakfast with Santa event for families.

“I never pictured myself working for a bank, but since starting here, I’m not sure there is any other industry I’d rather work in,” says Bank Officer & Human Resources GeneralistRobert McHugh, who celebrates his fifth year at MFS.

The Best Banks to Work For are determined using two assessments: an eight-part employee satisfaction survey followed by an independent examination of company policies and benefits. Within the US, there are over 4000 community banks and of those who apply only 90 are chosen for this distinction.

“While other companies made cutbacks this year, MFS actually increased benefits and investments in our people,” says President and Chief Executive Officer Thomas Rudzewick. “And we’re seeing that commitment pay dividends in employee retention and satisfaction.”
