How to Open an Account

Ready to join Maspeth Federal Savings and take advantage of all the benefits of being a member? You can open a statement savings account* or checking account online or at your local bank branch in just a few minutes if you are:

• 18 years or older
• A citizen or permanent resident of the United States
• In possession of a valid U.S. tax identification number (Social Security Number)

Note to parents: Teens ages 13-17 can open a Teen Checking & Savings account as long as a parent or guardian is a joint owner. Our Young Savers Club account requires your child to print/sign their own name in person in a local bank branch. 

For a quick, efficient process, please pull together the following documentation before you apply:

• Image of your government-issued ID, driver’s license, state ID or passport showing your current address
• Residential and mailing addresses (if different)
• Social Security Number
• Date of birth

Tip: If applying from a desktop computer, please have a scanned image of your ID ready to upload.

Before you open a checking or savings account, you may want to consider these optional decisions:

• Bundling. You can open a savings account and a checking account at the same time with just one application.
• Joint owner. You can give equal access to your funds to someone in your household.
• Beneficiary. You can designate an individual to receive the balance of funds in the event of the owner’s death.

Once you submit your application, you'll receive an email confirmation that it's being processed. 

Once your application is approved, you’ll receive a welcome email detailing next steps and other important details, like how to set up your online account* and links to download our mobile app.

*Online account opening is currently offered only to St. John's students and the following counties: Queens, Brooklyn, Nassau and Suffolk. If you want to open an account and are not a current St. John's student or located in these counties, please visit your nearest Maspeth Federal Savings branch.
