4 LEARNHOWTOSAVEMONEY&ENERGYATHOME There are many ways to protect your wallet and the environment at home, from household hacks to large-scale renovations. Let’s see how it’s done with a trip to the Green home. You’ve kept up with the Joneses, but have you met the Greens? Aniela and Paul are green living experts, and they’ve invited you over to watch the game. Here’s what you notice about the Green way of life. Meet the Greens Main Office Recycle Day April 22 1PM - 4PM Paper Shredding Electronics Recycling VIN-Etching by NYPD Catalytic Converter Kit Distribution Pet Adoption (all adoption fees covered by MFS!) Co-sponsored with Councilman Robert Holden & C.O.M.E.T. New Hyde Park Branch April 22 Paper shredding available from 10am - 2pm. In the Driveway The Green’s receive a hefty tax credit for their electric vehicle parked in their driveway. They also received free antitheft measures like VIN-etching at the MFS recycle event which helped them save on car insurance. To the Kitchen The centerpiece of their kitchen is the electric oven range, for which they received a government rebate, and the ceramic-based nonstick cookware on it, which takes less energy to heat. Next to the ENERGY STAR dishwasher that uses just three gallons per load vs. 27, is the ENERGY STAR fridge, set between 38°F and 42°F. The Bathroom The eco-innovations continue as you notice a dual-flush toilet which uses half as much water as older ones. Did you know 79% of water lost in the home is from toilet leaks, which waste up to 300 gallons per day? On the Roof Looking up, you'll find solar panels that save the Greens an average of $300 a year- plus they received a 30% tax credit on the installation. At the Front Door You're greeted by their adorable dog they adopted fee-free at the MFS recycle event. Pet adoption helps reduce the environmental and welfare impacts of breeding mills.
